How does it work?
When you install the Tallyopia plugin and register your site on the Tallyopia.com Profile page, your site is added to our monitoring system. We check your site at regular intervals by doing the following:
- Pick a popular page on your site
- Visit that site with our monitoring script
- See if others have visited by checking analytics
- Log whether the site is reachable or not
We show you the information we gathered in the Monitoring section of your Tallyopia.com profile page. Additionally, if you’ve chosen to receive email notifications, we will email you if the status of your site has changed. For example, if your site is up and then goes down, you’ll get one email. When your site goes back up, you’ll get another email. We only send emails on status changes; that way you won’t get barraged if your site is down for a long time.
You can opt-in and out of having your site monitored. You can also opt-in and out of receiving email notifications when the status of your site changes.
Does monitoring use extra bandwidth or place extra load on my server?
Our monitoring scripts first try to check if your site is responsive without requesting an entire page. This helps reduce bandwidth. Only if your server is unresponsive will we try requesting a full page (some servers do not know how to respond to the minimal request).
Does your monitoring check my site from multiple locations?
Yes! In addition to server visits, we use the analytics we are collecting to tell us if your site is up or not. Since your visitors come from multiple locations, we are able to get an idea of whether your site is reachable from more than one place.
Can I get monitoring without the analytics?
The Tallyopia.com plugin must be installed and running on your website for us to monitor it. If you really just want the monitoring, install the plugin and don’t worry about the analytics!
