Getting Started – Installation Help

We’re in the first week of Tallyopia’s beta.  So far, so good, but there have been some questions about the signup process so we wanted to talk about them here…

Signing Up and Registering Your Site

First, you need to sign up for a Tallyopia account in order to get things working.  If you don’t, you won’t see analytics in your Dashboard and your widgets won’t work (won’t widget?).

When you sign up, you need to register your site by entering its name in the Tallyopia section of your account.  For example, the account for this site looks like:

If you don’t do this, Tallyopia won’t product analytics for your website, and your shortcodes won’t do anything.

How Do I Sign in?

Sign in by clicking here or by clicking on the Login button at the top of this page.

What URL Do I Enter?

On your blog, go to “Tallyopia Dash –> Diagnostics”.  Look at the entry titled “URL for Tallyopia Profile”.  That’s the value you should enter in the above field.

When you click “save”, you may notice that Tallyopia modified the URL.  Tallyopia only cares about about part of the URL, so it will make the necessary adjustments after you click “save”.

Do you need to enter the www part or not?  Look at the “WordPress address (URL)” entry to be sure.

Could this be easier?  Yes!  The next release of the plugin will have a Setup screen which will tell you exactly what to enter and will let you know if your account is working properly.  Stay tuned :)

What If I Have More Than One Site?

Ain’t no big thing!  You can manage them all with one account.  Just enter the sites separated by commas or newlines.

What If I Have Multiple URLs for the Same Site?

Enter only the  URL that you see under “Settings –> General” in the “WordPress address (URL)” area.  It doesn’t matter what URL people use to get to your site; what matters is the URL that your WordPress installation uses to identify the blog.  There’s only one value for that, and that value is the one that Tallyopia needs.
